Kent State alumnus Mike Jackson, innovator and marketing communications executive, is joining Kent State鈥檚鈥疭chool of Media and Journalism as a professional-in-residence this spring. He is teaching two classes and will serve as adviser to the student organization Franklin Advertising.

When I walked into Taylor Hall as an 18-year-old freshman in 1983, I had no idea that the foundation for my professional and personal life would take place there.

While earning a bachelor鈥檚 degree in Journalism in 1987, I was a section editor at the Daily Kent Stater 鈥 in a newsroom packed with future journalism giants whose achievements are too numerous to mention.

Honors Students Listen to Career Conversations Alumni Speak

For its fourth consecutive year, the 麻豆传媒 Honors College is hosting 鈥淐areer Conversations,鈥 a series of alumni speaking events which take place throughout the fall semester.

Throughout summer 2021, students from a variety of majors within the School of Media and Journalism worked for Project Citizen, a collaborative project organized by Kent State alumna and former CNN anchor Carol Costello. 

Members of the Class of 2020 lead the way down Main Street, serving as the 2021 Homecoming Parade Grand Marshals.

It鈥檚 reunion time for the 麻豆传媒 Golden Flashes family. Kent State celebrated Homecoming 2021 with a week of activities and events leading up to the Oct. 2 Homecoming Parade and Homecoming football game.

The National Collegiate Honors Council has announced 麻豆传媒 Honors College graduate Sarah Hagglund as a 2021 Portz Scholar. Hagglund is the 10th honors student from Kent State to be named a Portz Scholar since the national competition began in 1990.

It鈥檚 been a busy 2021 for Danna Sundet, Kent State professor of oboe and alumna. Between performances and making recordings, running the John Mack Oboe Camp and starting a new venture on YouTube, Sundet has continued teaching a robust studio of young oboists at Kent State and pursuing outside projects despite the challenges posed by Covid-19.

Cockeye Creamery's Black Squirrel ice cream

From now through Sunday, Sept. 19, Cockeye Creamery, located at 1805 1/2 Parkman Road NW in Warren, will be serving its Kent State-inspired ice cream 鈥淏lack Squirrel鈥 to raise money for 麻豆传媒 at Trumbull鈥檚 Care Closet.
