In alignment with the Â鶹´«Ã½ Guide to Marketing, this page provides resources for finding high-quality university-approved images, tools for editing and resizing them, and best practices for using them in Drupal. Whether you're adding a faculty headshot, a feature image, or an information graphic, these guidelines will help ensure your visuals are effective and on-brand.


Finding and Using Kent State Images

Kent State provides a variety of high-quality images and graphics to enhance university websites. This section includes resources for accessing official campus photography, faculty headshots, and branded information graphics, along with guidelines for appropriate usage.

Kent State Photo Archive

The Â鶹´«Ã½ photography gallery contains compelling images that document campus life and the beauty of the Â鶹´«Ã½ campuses. Faculty and staff headshots are also available for use in profile pages. The images are free for use when promoting programs associated with Â鶹´«Ã½. They can be used in print, on the web, etc.  In order to download photos you will need to and request it be activated by Bob Christy, rchristy@kent.edu.

Information Graphic Library

Information Graphics are used throughout Kent State websites to call out points of pride and facts about the university or specific university programs. Graphics are hyperlinked to areas of the website with more information about that fact.

Editing and Resizing Images

If you need to edit an image, there are several free tools available for different levels of editing.

Resizing Images

For basic resizing, we recommend the following options:

Adobe Express (Online, Free)

Adobe Express is a free, browser-based image editing tool from Adobe, the makers of Photoshop and Creative Cloud. It’s a great choice for quickly resizing images for use on the website.

 

Microsoft Photos (Windows, Free)

Windows users can use the built-in Photos app to resize images easily. If the app isn’t installed, you can download it from the .

How to Resize Images in Microsoft Photos:

  1. Open the image in the Photos app.
  2. Click the three dots in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Resize.
  4. Choose a preset size or click Define custom dimensions.
  5. Set your new dimensions.
  6. Click Save resized copy.

How to Compress an Image in Microsoft Photos:

  1. Select the image you want to compress.
  2. Click the Picture Tools Format tab.
  3. Click Compress Pictures.
Advanced Image Editing Software

For more complex image editing, consider using one of these free alternatives to Photoshop:

GIMP (Windows/MacOS, Free)

GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a powerful open-source image editor with a wide range of features, including photo retouching, image composition, batch processing, and format conversion. It supports plug-ins and scripting for advanced customization.

Paint.NET (Windows, Free)

Paint.NET offers a user-friendly interface with support for layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a variety of tools. It also has an active community that provides tutorials and plug-ins for extended functionality.
