An Unexpected Journey from Steel Worker to Champion of Black Students and Alumni at Kent State Silas Ashley, ’74, was told by his high school guidance counselor that he “was not college material.” He was encouraged to go straight into the workforce after graduation instead of pursuing higher education, so Silas went on to work at Republic Steel in Cleveland. What NOT to bring to camp

  • Electronics or other communication devices
    • Campers should keep all personal electronics in their bags, and should not use them during camp hours.
    • Campers will be asked to put them away if they are seen using them. A second warning may result in confiscation of the device.  
  • Toys or other personal belongings
    • Restricted items include, but are not limited to: stuffed animals, playing cards/card games, electronics, action figures or dolls (campers may bring books).

What to bring to camp

  • Backpack or bag that your camper can easily carry around all day – Please be sure your camper’s name is clearly written on this and all other objects in this list!
  • Refillable water bottle WITH YOUR CAMPER’S NAME WRITTEN ON IT.
  • Preferred sunscreen type/SPF level.

That could easily describe the route Nicole Grimm is taking to find her place in the working world. Grimm graduated from Â鶹´«Ă˝ in 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in fashion design. The transition into a rigorous nursing program often leads to feelings of isolation, with students struggling to form connections and unsure of where to turn for help. On Nov. 21, 2024, Â鶹´«Ă˝â€™s nursing program hosted a policy panel focused on access to behavioral health resources.
