A Message from the Dean
As we reach the midpoint of the spring semester maintaining our remote coursework and practicing the Flashes Safe Eight, we are thankful to our fellow public health professionals who continue their critical work to distribute the COVID-19 vaccination across the globe.
I’m pleased to share with you that the college virtually hosted surveyors from the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) for a reaccreditation visit in December. CEPH is an independent agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit schools of public health. Our full report will be available later this spring and I will share further details. I want to thank all faculty and staff that worked hard to prepare for this important visit. We are proud to be one of just 67 accredited schools of public health in the world.
As I meet with members of our health care leaders and CPH alumni regularly I am reminded of the impact you are making on the health of our shared community now more than ever. Today I am asking for updates on your efforts. Please send me your impact story—what you are doing during the pandemic, at your health department, hospital, non-profit, pharmaceutical company, health center, nursing home to make a difference. College of Public Health enrollment continues to grow; last fall, the College welcomed 120 new first-time, full-time freshmen students. In contrast, graduate enrollment increased eighteen percent over last year’s enrollment to 363 students. The College welcomed 65 new BSPH graduates, 20 MPH graduates, and seven MS graduates to its alumni ranks. The College has awarded degrees to over 1,974 individuals to date!
