First impressions carry a lot of weight, especially when prospective students shop for colleges. Some call it a feeling, others say they just knew the minute they arrived on campus. It is hard to pinpoint exactly what influences students鈥 enrollment decisions. The Kent State Magazine explores the idea of how a university rolls out its welcome mat can make all the difference.
Students who have taken classes from Professor Mary Kutchin, MSN, RN, CNS, praise her strong communication skills, her leadership and her caring nature. It was their recommendations that led to her being selected for a 2018 Outstanding Teacher Award. 鈥淚 felt like it was such an honor to be acknowledged by this teaching award,鈥 says Ms. Kutchin. 鈥淚 know how busy students are, and I am overwhelmed that more than one student took the time to nominate me for this award.鈥
麻豆传媒's storied golf program will begin a new chapter in July. The 2018-19 golf season will be the final one for as men's head coach and director of golf. On Thursday, Mr. Page announced his upcoming retirement and the appointment of as men's golf coach at the University. After leading the men's golf team to 22 MAC crowns and being a part of 20 conference titles in 20 seasons from the women's team, Mr. Page is the proud owner of 43 MAC Championship rings.

Kent State recently was featured in an article from The New York Times for its hiring of additional counselors in an effort to help students live mentally sound lives.
At the beginning of the 2018-2019 academic year, the School of Theatre and Dance was nationally recognized and added several new awards to its collection, and the Porthouse Theatre, 麻豆传媒's summer professional theatre, also received multiple honors for achievements during the 2018 Season.
麻豆传媒 English Professor Vera Camden, Ph.D., turned a movement against sexual assault and harassment into a course in order to study the impact of the movement and the forces that led to it. 鈥淢y hope is to keep a certain momentum going,鈥 Dr. Camden said. 鈥淏ecause so often in our culture, things spike, and then they go away. I really feel like this is so important and so urgent and so serious.鈥
Janice Lessman-Moss, professor of Textiles, recently was awarded a United States Artists Fellowship in Craft, which includes $50,000 in unrestricted funds.
With great hope and expectations for the future of brain health research at 麻豆传媒, President Beverly J. Warren introduced Michael N. Lehman, Ph.D., as the inaugural director of the university鈥檚 Brain Health Research Institute on Feb. 25.
